Bring your own device to school
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Students in Year 3 - 6 are encouraged to bring their own device to school.
The effective integration of digital technology can have a transformative effect on learning. Your child will use their own device to:
craft their writing on Google Docs.
use websites such as Studyladder, Mathletics, Education Perfect and Reading Eggs to support their learning across the curriculum.
communicate their learning in multiple and creative ways. For example, making an animation, graphic design, iMovie etc.
use the internet to find information for research tasks.
develop their understanding of computer science using coding websites such as Scratch and Code Avengers.
The College Street Normal School Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring that all children have access to a range of devices. Classes will continue to have a limited number of school owned devices available for all children to use. BYOD is recommended but not compulsory.
As well as using digital technology, children will continue to use books for literacy, maths and integration learning. Digital devices are a tool, and will be used when they are the most suitable tool for learning. With our blended approach to learning, all children will still be required to purchase their stationery requirements for the year
Approved Devices
If you are purchasing a new device or your child has one of the following devices at home they can bring it to school. Devices are required for Year 3-6 only.

Chromebook
Other options:
Apple iPad 8 or newer (includes Apple iPad Air 3, Apple iPad Pro 3)
Apple MacBook Air (must be running iOS 15 or later)
Apple MacBook Pro (must be running iOS 15 or later)
We do not allow android tablets or windows devices.
Insurance/Repairs
Teachers will do their best to minimise the risk of devices being stolen or broken and will encourage children at all times to take responsibility for their device. Insurance and repairs are the total responsibility of parents/caregivers. The school will not take any responsibility for stolen or broken devices. Please ensure you check the conditions of your insurance policy before signing the BYOD User Agreement.
